OXFORD AREA SENIOR CENTER

Director's CornerDirector's Message

  MAY 2008

Here's a pleasant thought, put away the snow shovels for another year and sharpen the lawn mower blades. Warm weather is finally here.

I want to personally thank Thelma and all who helped with this year's Easter Candy Sale. It was a whopping success. They made 200 pounds of delicious candy and $1393 on this fundraiser.

A special thanks to Clarabelle Shoop and Betty Slauch and all of our volunteers who helped with this years Chicken Pot Pie Dinner. As always the pot pie was delicious and we made $523.00. Please see the acknowledgement on page 2 thanking the Candy Makers and the Chicken Pot Pie volunteers for their efforts.

The Participants' Council election for Council representatives takes place during the entire month of May. Please stop by and cast your ballot. The Participants' Council represents you, as a member of the Center, and assists the Director and the Board in ideas for Center programs, activities and fundraisers. The list of candidates are listed on this page.

Our Spring Breakfast is scheduled for Friday, May 2nd from 7am to 10am. An all you can eat buffet breakfast for $6.00.

The Chester County Senior Games are scheduled for Thursday May 15th at the Church Farm School in Exton. An application form was mailed by CCDAS to all who have previously participated. So please either mail your application back to the County Dept. of Aging or return it to us no later than Monday, May 1st. We need to know by then to set up your ride on Rover. Our Center will again be running the Bocce Tournament, so sign-up and plan to enjoy this fun day, including Bingo in the afternoon.

Our annual Dove Tree Memorial Service is planned for Friday, May 23rd at 1pm with member Rev. Don Arter officiating and music by our very own Twilighters. Please plan on attending this beautiful service and call us ahead of time to sponsor a Memorial Dove in memory of a loved one.

Please travel safely on this Memorial Day holiday. Highways are extremely busy kicking off the summer season.

OOPS !!! Out of space. Enjoy the weather!!

GO PHILLIES !!!!
