TIP
OF THE MONTH: MICROSOFT WORD
Grow
Font and Shrink Font Tool
Here
are four quick ways to change the size of selected text (don't
forget to select what you want to change):
- Click
on Format, Click on Font and then specify the desired point
size, Click on OK.
- Click
the Font Size button on the Formatting toolbar and select
an entry from the drop-down list.
- Use
the Grow Font and Shrink Font shortcuts, which are [Ctrl]
plus the close- and open- square bracket characters, respectively.
Ctrl+[ is the Grow Font, Ctrl+] is the Shrink Font.
- You
can also add the Grow Font, Shrink Font tools to the formatting
toolbar. Click at the end of the Formatting Toolbar on the
Toolbar Options
(see
picture on left), click Add or Remove Buttons and then on
Formatting (the toolbar name). The list of available buttons
then appears; the buttons that are presently on the toolbar
have a check mark next to them. To add a button to the toolbar,
click the buttons named Grow Font and Shrink Font, and a
check mark will appear. (To remove a button, click the button
name and the check mark will disappear.) It's easy. To close
the button list, just click somewhere else in the window.
Now the Grow Font and Shrink Font tools will also be on
the toolbar for you to use anytime.
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+P moves your cursor to the Font Size list box
in the standard toolbar. Then, you can press the up or down
arrow on the keyboard to cycle through the available font
sizes, and press the Enter key on the keyboard when you
reach the font size you want.
- If
you just want to cycle through the available sizes without
moving the cursor to the toolbar, press Ctrl+Shift+>
to increase the font to the next larger size in the Size
list box. Similarly, pressing Ctrl+Shift+< decreases
the font to the next smaller size.
- If
you already know what size you want your font to be, you
can type the font size in the Size
list box before pressing Enter. You can specify
a size as small as 1 point or as large as 1638 points. You
can even enter half-points, such as 15.5.

Useful
shortcut keys in Microsoft Word
Do
you find that using the keyboard is sometimes quicker than
using your mouse? Shortcut keys can help you bypass menus
and carry out commands directly. You can use shortcut keys
in many ways with Word, from accessing commands and toolbar
buttons to repeating your last action. Shortcut keys are sometimes
listed next to the command name on Word menus. For example,
on the File menu, the Print command lists the shortcut CTRL+P.
For a comprehensive list of shortcuts, ask the Office Assistant
for help. Press F1 to display the Assistant, and then type
shortcut keys in the text box. Here are some of the most useful
Word shortcut keys:
