COMPUTER CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Oxford Area Senior Center offers computer classes unlike anywhere else. Our goal is to provide hands-on and detailed instruction in a non-intimidating and patient environment. All class participants are encouraged to ask questions. Each student receives a class manual to keep for future reference. We offer classes to members and nonmembers from September thru June. Our Course Selection is as follows:

Basic Computer Class (Learn How to Use Your Computer) - 12 week course that either meets twice a week for 1 hour sessions or once a week for 1 1/2 hour sessions - you will learn the basics of how to use your computer. We also learn how to type and print letters, print envelopes and labels in Microsoft Word, send and receive electronic mail (email), and search the Internet for information. Class schedule

Various 4-week courses that meet twice a week for 1 hour sessions or once a week for 1 1/2 hour sessions - It is recommended that you take the Basic Computer Class first before taking the next level classes.

Corel WordPerfect Basics (The Other Word Processing Program) - This course covers menus and toolbars. How to open, close, and save documents. How to cut, copy and paste and change appearance of text. How to create, view and edit headers and footers. Implementation of spelling, grammar and thesaurus applications. How to print documents, envelopes and labels. Class schedule

Electronic Mail Level 2 (Keeping in Touch with Family and Friends) - This course covers requirements for accessing the Internet and signing in or logging on. Sending e-mail - describing the parts of an email message, writing and sending with and without attachments. How to add, edit, delete, organize and print your Address Book. Receiving e-mail - how to open incoming mail with and without attachments. How to reply, forward and delete messages. How to change the appearance of your inbox. We use Outlook Express but discuss the similarities of other email providers. Class schedule

Microsoft Publisher Basic (Creating Newsletters, Brochures, Etc.) - This course covers how to get started using Publisher. How to use templates, wizards and creating publications from scratch. The use of drawing text boxes, adding text and formatting text. The basics of Desktop Publishing. Class schedule

Microsoft Excel Basics (How to Work with Spreadsheets) - This course covers how to get started using Excel. How to use the menus and toolbars. How to create a new document (workbook), open a previously saved document, save and close documents, add text and basic formulas, edit documents, headers and footers, and print spreadsheets and more. Microsoft Excel Level 2 (How to Use Excel as a Database) - This covers how to use this spreadsheet program as a database. Add information in a database format. How to sort and filter data. How to merge data into Microsoft Word to create labels. Class schedule

Microsoft Windows Basics (Understanding Microsoft Windows) - This course covers how to use Microsoft Windows - open, close, move, minimize and maximize windows, Desktop, Icons, Taskbar and Recycle Bin. Class schedule

Microsoft Word Level 2 (Word Processing & Typing Letters) - This course covers how to use this word processing program. Learn how to use menus and toolbars. How to create a new document, open a previously saved document, save and close documents. How to cut, copy and paste and change appearance of text. How to create, view and edit headers and footers. Microsoft Word Level 3 (Creating Columns, Tables and Inserting Images into Documents) - This course covers how to add columns and tables to your document. How to add text into columns and tables. How to add clip art and pictures to your document. How to modify the clip art and pictures. How to use WordArt. Class schedule

Surfing the Internet Level 2 (Searching for Information on the World Wide Web) - This course covers Internet terms, search engines and web browsers. How to navigate and search the Internet using the Address window and search button. How to customize searches and mark web pages for easy return (adding them to your Favorites folder). Organize your Favorites folder. Printing and saving images and printing information. We use Internet Explorer but discuss Netscape and AOL. Class schedule
